FAQs and Tips
You may have some questions about my services and products, so I have set out the commonly asked questions and answers here to help you, followed by some treatment tips.
MATERNITY LEAVE:
Please note that Lavina is currently on maternity leave, returning to work in 2011.
Q- Do I need to provide anything before you arrive?
Just yourself, warm and cold water and an electric socket may be needed. I will provide all the bedding, towels, products and all necessary equipment to carry out your treatments in your chosen environment.
Q- What should I expect when you arrive?
I will confirm with you 24 hours prior to your appointment to make sure you are ready. It will take me about ten minutes to get treatments set up, once you have shown me the room which you have chosen for your treatment.
Q- How can I get the most comfort out of my treatment?
Your home is your sanctuary, if possible quiet time in your home is the best for you to relax. It is perfectly fine too if you have children or animals. Choose a preferred room for your treatment, creating a peaceful ambience, close your curtains if you want. I can provide candles, aromatherapy, music and herbal teas if you wish, but if you would rather not have any of these things, just let me know, as all your needs will be met.
Q- What if I have any health worries?
Please tell me if you have any physical aliments or disabilities, heart conditions, pregnancy, allergies or skin disorders. Treatments can also be done in hospitals, retirement homes and in wheelchairs. If you have any concerns at all please let me know.
Q- Do you sell products to your clients?
Yes. I do for my facials, hand & foot therapy and makeup. If you are having regular facials, it is very important to follow a skin care regime, and I will recommend the right products to suit your skin type and condition - that way you will see much greater results with your skin care.
Treatment TIPs
Here are some helpful tips about my services and products:
Facials:
Q: How often shall I have a facial and what are the benefits?
At least once a month because skin cells replace themselves every 28 days.
Facial masks remove impurities in your skin pores as well as minimize the
appearance in your wrinkles. Blackheads dissolve and are reduced and
washed away. Your skin will have a much healthier glow. For facials to truly
benefit you and your skin you should follow a beauty routine to compliment your
facials. Use a cleansing cream or gel to remove traces of makeup or dirt daily,
follow with a toner to loosen pores and end with a moisturiser that suits your
skin type and condition. Also using sunblock daily is important.
Try my Fleur De Mer Sunblocks, with tinted moisturiser and full protection -
you can leave the house and be fully protected from the harmful rays of the sun.
Very popular with teenagers and if you don’t want to wear makeup, and great for
the beach ladies or a day at the pool.
Q: What changes cause my skin to break out?
Hormonal fluctuations, sleep, exercise, diet, changes in weather, excess oil and
skin build up or bacteria are usually causes. A twice daily cleanse, tone and
moisturise, also exfoliating and use of a mask, followed by a facial once a
month, can help maintain a healthy balance in the skin.
Nails
Q: What if I have weak nails, what can I do?
Having regular manicures are a great help, monthly visits from me will assure
your hands are maintained in beautiful & healthy condition. Try using Entity’s
nail strengtheners and hardener - available for purchase from me.
Q: What do those tiny white marks mean?
It is not a vitamin deficiency; it’s more likely to be a minor injury.
Q: How can I prevent peeling, breaking and splitting?
Detergents, some soaps and household cleaners can have a huge effect on the
skin; wearing gloves can prevent further damage when cleaning. Try not to over
soak nails, the more you soak the drier the nail becomes and weakens over time.
After hand washing apply a hand moisturiser and cuticle oil to cuticles daily.
Filing nails with wooden files in an oval, one way direction is best for your
free edge.
Other Nail Tips:
Take care of your nails during this period of changing seasons. The
transition from summer to autumn/winter can take its toll on your nails, leaving
them splitting and dry. They should be buffed and filed on a weekly basis and
once in a while a proper manicure is a must to keep cuticles healthy and tidy.
Treat yourself to a Mini Manicure monthly to six-weekly to help keep your
nails healthy and strong.
As an at-home treat, try warming some Almond or Olive oil (with a few drops of
your favourite essential oil) in the microwave, and massage into your hands and
cuticles.
Leaving polish on your nails for too long can damage your nail plate, leading to
splitting, permanent staining and atrophy. Once a month, give your nails a rest
from all forms of polish for 3-5 days. A good hand cream is so nice to have by
your bedside, apply just before you go to bed.
Waxing
For waxing allow ¼ inch or 6mm of hair to grow, so that the wax can get a good grip on the hair. For most average women that is usually about 2 weeks growth. Most waxing is done every 4-6 weeks, but it does depend on individual hair growth.
- Stay out of the sun and sun beds 24 hrs before and after waxing.
- Using a loofah in circular motions with an exfolliant will help prevent in-grown hairs.
- Tea tree wash will help too, try to exfoliate 24 hours before a bikini wax.
- Hair grows in cycles, so it may take up to 3 wax sessions to have all your hair on the same cycle, then you will notice your hair will be much finer. Try not to shave as it will throw it off the cycle.
- If you are very sensitive try taking a pain killer 30 min prior to your wax treatment, therefore you won’t be in so much pain.
General Beauty Tips:
The cooler weather means plenty of hot milos, teas and coffees but don’t forget to keep drinking water. The tannins in tea and the caffeine in coffee actually equate to minus 1 glass of water from your diet. So instead, try drinking hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice. Not only does hot water aid in digestion, but the lemon is detoxifying and great for your liver. I understand it’s hard for people to drink water! Then try sticking to herbal teas which are also great in aiding digestion after a meal – especially green tea. Try Algologie sea weed and mint tea, so detoxifying and refreshing.
Hotter showers during the cooler months will lead to drying skin. Make sure
you follow your shower with a great moisturiser and try not to let your
showers get too hot. The hot water also dehydrates and weakens your hair!
Don’t end up getting the winter blues by letting yourself go. Just because you
are not looking at your toes all day doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to a
great pedicure and have those toes looking gorgeous for yourself! The
same goes for your waxing and other general maintenance – just because winter
means turtlenecks, trousers and boots, doesn’t mean we should neglect those
unseen areas. If you know you look great then you’ll feel great knowing you’re
not trying to hide what’s underneath!
Treat yourself – whether it be a Manicure, fancy acrylic nails, a massage, a
bunch of flowers or a shopping spree, be kind to yourself! Sometimes we as
women put everyone else first; our kids, our husbands or partners, our friends,
our family and we are usually at the bottom of the pile. I don’t think any one
of us could say that we give to ourselves enough. Autumn/Winter is a great
time to do this because not only do we have more time as our social lives tend
to quiet down, but also it’s a great way to beat the winter blues. Pamper
yourself, or even better let me come to you and pamper you.
